Inenglish: a student-run English education NGO in Costa Rica
project background: inenglish
Inenglish was a non-governmental student-run educational organization that I founded in high school and scaled through university. Our mission was simple yet urgent: deliver top-quality, modern English education to under-resourced children in Costa Rica to give them the lifelong advantage of becoming bilingual in a developing country.
We brought together a highly diverse, driven student team from top global institutions, including Lincoln School, American University, University of Pennsylvania, and City University of London, to become the creative leaders of tomorrow.
our secret sauce
We didn't do typical, boring grammar classes. The absolute best linguistics teacher I ever had was my French teacher, who taught entirely through games. I realized that if playing was the most effective way for a teenager to learn a language, it was definitely the best way to handle a child's short attention span.
So, we threw out the dry whiteboards. We designed interactive, creative classes where we taught English through dance, card games, videos, and outdoor activities. We transformed strict linguistic concepts into high-energy, unforgettable experiences that children genuinely wanted to show up for.
